Our Story
In 1973, faced with the continual problem of sourcing fine hardwood and veneer, custom furniture maker Andrew Poynter began A&M Wood Specialty Inc. What started as a small venture to provide himself and local craftsmen with quality wood, quickly took off, and Andrew quit furniture making to focus on the growing business. In 1976 he moved A&M into the old, converted two story textile mill overlooking the beautiful Speed River in Cambridge, Ontario where you’ll find us today.
This small, predominantly local business, quickly expanded into an international service as A&M Wood gained recognition for its dedication to quality and customer service. In 2007, after 34 years in business, A&M Wood Specialty Inc. was purchased by the UCS Forest Group, North America’s premier distributor and importer of quality lumber, composite panels, and decorative surfaces.
